Today one of Dayton, Ohio's oldest companies, The Lorenz Corporation, announced the purchase of Carthage, Illinois-based Teaching and Learning Company, a publisher of supplementary books for Preschool through 12th grade education. This acquisition adds to Lorenz's existing educational product lines, including Lorenz Educational Press and Milliken Publications, which Lorenz purchased in May of this year.
Reiff Lorenz, CEO of the family-owned firm now in its fifth generation of leadership, commented on the acquisition: "We're committed to providing the books that will help teachers prepare their students for success. The Teaching and Learning Company has a 25-year history of creating great products, and we want to continue that legacy."
Founded nearly 120 years ago in Dayton as a publisher of church music, The Lorenz Corporation has expanded into educational music publications for students in Kindergarten through college, and more recently into books covering hundreds of other subjects. "We create materials that help young people learn everything from self esteem to rhythm to high-school Biology," said Mr. Lorenz. "There are so many important things that are not taught by the standard school textbooks. The mission of our general education divisions is to help teachers fill all those gaps."
The production and distribution of Teaching and Learning Company's products will be moved from Illinois to Lorenz's facilities in downtown Dayton.
